QUALITIES OF A NARCISSISTIC SOCIOPATH

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, a character named, General Zaroff, a Russian Cossack and expatriate who lives on Ship-Trap Island and enjoys hunting men. He likes to hunter men because one day he got bored with animals because they go off of instincts and can’t reasons like humans can. He likes hunting men even though its murders and he gains pleasure from it. He is an example of a person that has a Narcissistic Sociopath. The story shows different qualities the general had such as has a grandiose sense of self-importance. He shows that he has a sense of self-importance because he constantly shows all the achievement he has had & talks way too much about himself. Secondly, he lacks empathy for other people’s needs and feelings. When Rainsford asks Zaroff if murdering people makes him a cold-blooded killer, Zaroff responds with

“Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong. The weak of the world
were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I not use my gift? If I wish to hunt, why should I not?

Finally, he holds the belief that they are of special or high status and can only be understood by similar people or should only associate with those people (or institutions). Thats why he read all the books about hunting, went off the war, and only talks to Rainsford because he thinks they are similar.
